Explorations in Improvisation
(Visual Arts & Body movement & Writing)

“When we work within the limits of our medium, we are forced to change our own limits. Improvisation does not mean breaking forms and limits just to be "free", but to use them as a means of transcending ourselves.
< Stephen Nachmanovitch - The power of Improvisation>
In these workshops we focus on the cultivation of a more conscious, healthy, curious, fertile and joyful relationship between ourselves and ourselves, between ourselves and the world surrounding us. On the development of our unique creative quality, of our deeply important ability to play, and - last but not least - our effective presence and function in a group.
Throughout the course, we engage with all kinds of arts in an open, free and playful way.
This work is as educative and transformative, as it is fun to experience. One should definitely meet with its world at least once in their life - whether that is here with me, or elsewhere, individually, or in a group.
The places and contexts where this work can be applied are limitless, and its constructive power immense and miraculous.
Objectives
The objectives of this work are both personal and an artistic - two human dimensions that often merge and whose cultivation inevitably follows a shared path.
I'll try to present some of these, here, as headings, although their range is vast and cannot be fully captured in a brief overview.
Through these workshops we intend to:
- Develop artistic instinct and skill.
- Develop observation skills.
- Cultivate emotional intelligence
- Relieve confusion, stress or other demanding states of mind and emotion, through their fertile interaction with the creative process.
Which actually means:
- Learn to develop a creative dialogue with internal and external "limitations". Discover how these are the opportunities that make us artists. The touchstones of miracles.
- Come into contact with our inner life while connecting with the life that surrounds us.
- Learn to express ousrelves in a creative and effective way.
- Learn to be ourselves within a group of intrinsically different people, while also evolving through that shared experience.
- Learn to cooperate with others with contentment, rather than feeling confined by the presence of others.
- Discover our unique abilities, strengths and talents.
- Learn how "mistake" IS art.
Which leads us to:
- Challenge our limiting belief systems.
- Cultivate our imagination.
- Learn that it's not impossible or extraordinary, but rather natural to feel confident and happy in our own skin.
- Learn to feel comfortable, as adults in the process of playing and witness how playing, is the foundation of experimention, of invention and innovation. The central force in releasing miracles.
