Tuning in Movement
These Masterclasses exist because they love stories… and they love bodies. They adore watching bodies move, speak, share their unique and unbelievable versions, or translate other types of stories in their own language. They see bodies as creative instruments - story artists in their own right - and want to be a part of their magic. They offer a space where bodies can breathe, move, sing, laugh, stand, crawl, jump, talk, whisper... or simply be… for a while. They wish to see the shy and the dynamic and the gracious and the tired; the earth of them and their sky; their water and their fire... and all the other shades of life they contain - meeting others, and creating worlds.
Guided by a poetic sensibility and the spirit of physical theater, the workshops explore gesture, posture, and presence - not to perform, even if this can also derive from this procedure - but to open space for play, discovery, and somatic inhabitance as an active state. These inspirations serve as a lens, not as a blueprint. The practice cultivates attention to movement, allowing story and significance to emerge naturally in the space - surprising participants, delighting them, and shaping new worlds together. Through this exploration, the workshops help each body's extraordinary poetry, its art, and its music reveal themselves, while also helping its space expand to generate more shades - forms we don’t even imagine being.
The Practice
Our body, whether simply breathing, responding to practical needs, or navigating complex experiences, is in a state of constant, inevitable motion. In these workshops, we focus on this intrinsic movement -from the flow of breath to subtle, sophisticated bodily dynamics - as a foundation for artistic inquiry.
We engage with the body as an instrument of perception and creation, observing how presence, attention, and intentionality give rise to movement. In this practice, we do not follow choreography imposed from outside, nor do we drift into improvisation without structure. We inhabit the space between. We cultivate an environment where movement unfolds organically, guided by inner awareness, intention, and interaction. Story, meaning, and form arise from the constant dialogue between the internal ecosystem and the world around us - revealing sequences that are at once deeply personal and universally resonant.
The work spans ritualistic, natural, expressive, and narrative-inspired movement, entering into a constant collaboration with the dramatic architecture of the stage. This inquiry demands focus, attention, and responsiveness to both self and others in the group, to both inside and out. Through this process, the body becomes both medium and collaborator, revealing movement as a form of artistic exploration, a language of perception, and a method of creative investigation.
The Structure
Just like in Tuning Art Practices, these sessions are structured in levels. Participants may begin with foundational aspects of movement and gradually progress into deeper, more intricate explorations. Each individual is encouraged to move at their own pace, fully engaging with each level before advancing.
Ultimately, this practice invites participants to discover the expressive, perceptive and artistic hidden nature of the living body, revealing movement itself as art and the act of being fully present as a creative discipline.
